About

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” Marcel Proust

It is tempting, when travelling to Provence, to rely heavily on reviews and tourists’ guides, wanting to take in all that’s talked about.

Yet, Provence is a big area that broadly covers south-east France. It offers lots to do and see.

So, how do you go about visiting it?

Are you in a rush to tick off a series of places-to-see, things-to-do from your list?

Or do you travel to a place you’ve selected carefully, looking forward to explore the nook and crannies of what’s around you and experience, gourmet-like, present and fully aware, what’s on offer?

This blog will appeal to you if you have a curious mind and enjoy taking your time to savour:

  • visiting an artist’s studio to chat about their work;
  • hiking uphill to appreciate the landscape before you while the scent of wild plants tickle your senses;
  • getting to know how old constructions came about, what they were used for and by whom;
  • noticing the light beloved of artists with your eye, through a camera lens or a paint brush;
  • talking to a local to find out ‘la petite histoire’, every day past or present stories;
  • learning to appreciate the different wines crafted with love by talented winemakers;
  • or simply sitting outside, at the terrace of a café and, while sipping a cool glass of rosé, seeing with renewed interest the world passing by …

Why the name ‘Unfolding Provence’?

I like the image unfolding conveys. It suggests that not all is obvious at first, that an act of opening is required.

About me

I’m Nathalie. Born in Provence, I spent some time abroad and now I’m back.

Curious by nature, I want to get to know my surroundings intimately and share with you some of my findings.

There is much to discover and uncover… but I’ll concentrate mainly on the area north of Avignon in ‘le Haut Vaucluse’ and south of Montélimar in ‘la Drôme Provençale’.

Hopefully you’ll come with me on this journey and who knows, you’ll want to visit Provence or explore anew.

And…perhaps, you’ll find yourself taking in your own surroundings with a fresh eye, eager to share your own ‘petites histoires’.

All texts and photos are created by me unless otherwise stated.

I welcome your comments, questions and suggestions.
